Payment

The full consultation fee is payable on the day of your visit.

Fees may be paid by credit card, debit card, cash or cheque. Cheques are to be made payable to your doctor.

Your account is claimed online with Medicare and your rebate will be deposited in to your bank account.

Other possible costs: 

If you request insurance forms or medical reports the charge will depend on the complexity and the time taken to complete all necessary documentation. Approximate cost is between $150 – $600

Referrals

A referral from a specialist is valid for three months only.

A referral is required for treatment, clinic consultations and inpatient visits by your treating specialist. Please ask your GP for an indefinite or 12 month referral after your first visit here. Without a valid referral, you will not be able to claim a rebate from Medicare.

If you are seen by your treating specialist as an inpatient, and or you are receiving chemotherapy at St George Private, an account will be sent directly to your health fund under the gap cover scheme.

Supporting You Through Cancer

Apart from the support of your specialist, who will advise on management and support you throughout your treatment and in followup, St George Oncology have affiliations with a number of allied health professionals with oncology experience.

These include an Occupational Therapist, Exercise Physiologist, Dietician and Clinical Psychologist. Your specialist will advise you if they feel that these services would be helpful for your individual case.

Living with cancer and the side effects of its treatment is often associated with symptoms that can impact on how you feel. Irrespective of the stage of disease, a supportive physician can assist in improving ones quality of life and sense of well-being.

Non-Attendance

At St George Oncology Associates, we aim to give our patients appointments as soon as possible.

In order to help us be able to do this, we ask that you give as much notice as possible if you are not able to attend your appointment.

A minimum of 24 hours’ notice must be given for cancellations, or you will incur an invoice for 50% of the consultation fee.

Medical Assistance

If you require an urgent consultation and your oncologist is not available, you are advised to see your GP or you can see one of the other specialists in the practice if applicable.

If you are receiving chemotherapy treatment at St George Private, all your medical issues should be directed to the Oncology Day Care Centre on (02) 9598 5310.

If you are a current or recent inpatient on Level 4 at the Private Hospital, please contact the ward on (02) 9598 5751 or (02) 9598 5752 and speak to the Oncology Practice Nurse.

If you have a medical emergency out of office hours, please go to your nearest Accident & Emergency Hospital or dial 000 for an ambulance.
